HOW THE SOUL RELATES TO GOD IN THE OLD TESTAMENT, 2Contemplative Reading of Scripture #142This book treats passages in the Old Testament from Psalm 97 to Ezekiel that describe how the “soul” relates to God. It invites us to pray with some passages that especially illustrate this relationship. This book forms the hundred and forty-second in the series Contemplative Reading of Scripture. As with other books in this series, this book offers a pattern of prayer called the “Prayer of the Heart to the Trinity.” In this book, chapter 8 describes this type of prayer. This book also follows a contemplative way of reading Scripture called CLASP. These letters stand for: Cor (Heart), Lectio (Reading), Auditus (Listening), Suspiria (Whispers), and Pax (Peace). We begin in our “heart” with prayer. We “read” through our Scripture passage. We “listen” to what this passage says to our hearts. We express in “sighs” to the Holy Spirit our longing to understand the Scripture more deeply. We end our prayer time in “peace.” In this book all Scripture quotations are from the New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition. In some passages, I have changed from indirect to direct address in order to make the encounter with God more personal. From time to time, I have changed the translation to be closer to the Hebrew. All royalties for this book go to the Carmelite Sisters in Armstrong, BC. Read more
